Oil on Wood
6"X8"
Maira Kalman was at City Arts and Lectures last Friday promoting her new book, "Why We Broke Up," with her hilarious co-author, Daniel Handler. Among the tidbits I took to heart about her creative process:
"... collecting meaningless moments through the day and that becomes your life."
"Daydreaming is the basis of everything."
And then the clincher:
"... just trying to be occupied. Until. You know. The inevitable."
Isn't that the truth? The first light. The morning walk. The chance encounter. The dog on the couch. It's what I do. And what I paint. Occupying myself.
