Jan came to dinner last night. It wasn't the first time she arrived with a beautiful bouquet from her garden at the head of the harbor. Last year it was peonies in a blue bottle, just before Hurricane Arthur blew through. This time she arranged a symphony of purple, magenta, orange, and rust flowers in a San Pellegrino Orange soda can, which has brought all kinds of optimism and exuberance into our house on this grey, foggy day.
