This morning I studied the trees outside our bedroom window. You would think that after 20 years of looking at the same thing, one would know all its ins and outs. But I saw the structure of the branches as if for the time. Particularly the negative spaces. The foggy backdrop helped define them in a way I never appreciated as fully. Am hoping to put my new knowledge to work in the studio today. We'll see. Perhaps I am like the goldfish, who has a memory of 1 minute. Or is it 3 seconds? I forget how that goes.
