Ellsworth Kelly's, "Gaza" lit up the room at SF MOMA last week as crowds soaked it all in.  May the light be with us.

Celebrating Ellsworth Kelly

Celebrating Ellsworth Kelly
Oil on Wood

In honor of his 90th birthday, SF MOMA filled a whole room with Ellsworth Kelly. It pulsated with bold shape, pure color, and black and white. And then this lady happened by. Icing on the cake.

Frida Kahlo's, "Frieda and Diego Rivera, 1931" admired by a beautiful woman who might have walked right out of the painting.  It was the last days of SFMOMA before it closed for expansion and the place was teeming with die-hard fans. Me and my friend, this lovely lady and people of all ages enraptured by art. I am already missing the museum and its vibrant collection and especially the people who are there giving life to art.

Where Rarely Is Heard a Discouraging Word

The weekend was warm and relaxing. A Baseball game broadcast on the radio filled the afternoon with memories of my childhood when our neighbor, Mister Muther, would settle into his big upholstered chair, smoke a pipe, and listen to his team win or lose while we played cards at his feet, content to while away the day.
Carefree and cared for. Call it contented.

Home on the Range

Home on the Range

Stocking up on my favorite aspects of home. Appreciating cows, California, Spring. Talking about art over breakfast. A last look at the Girl and her Pearl at the de Young. Men and women looking at Superman. And a last visit to SF MOMA yesterday with a friend and the most interesting assortment of museum goers ever.

Grazing

Grazing

Friday afternoon I went searching for pastures full of cows. I get nostalgic seeing them meandering through the California landscape. My childhood featured weekend walks in Sonoma with my father. We often came across cows grazing on neighboring properties across which we trespassed. He thought nothing of climbing through barbed wire fences and we got lost more than once. That was the way he lived. Venturing beyond the known and risking getting lost, managing to emerge unscathed and enlivened by the experience. I just tagged along for the ride.

Man and Martin at MOMA

Man and Martin at MOMA

This man is mulling over Agnes Martin's "Falling Blue" at SF MOMA. I am going to have to go spend some time soaking it all in next week before the museum closes for renovation June 2. They say humans like change. I must not be human because I like things just the way they are.  Maybe I am a dog.
