Man in Yellow Suspenders Encounters Superman - Painting at the De Young Museum

Vermeer's "The Girl With a Pearl Earring" is featured at the De Young Museum's "Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis" exhibit. It was my reason for going first thing this morning, and I am glad I did. The bright light and rich dark in the paintings made me want to come right home and mix paint. But first I had to go see my old favorites, and to my surprise, Mel Ramos' wonderful "Superman," subject of several of my paintings, has been moved to just outside the ladies' and men's room on the main floor so there was lots of coming and going by "Superman" to watch. When a man with yellow suspenders took a moment to admire Superman, I knew this was my lucky day.
It never fails. Going to the De Young is like taking medicine. The kind that tastes good and goes down easy. I always feel visually refreshed and energized after a morning spent milling around the place.

This morning I had my glasses adjusted. Just a quick fix to the bridge made a huge difference in my vision which had been bothering me since ordering new glasses months ago.  I wonder what other small change in my life might bring about such clarity and comfort. Open the window,  let the breeze blow though,"let go of old energies," as my mother used to say. What a relief it is.

Like my friend said, "Find one new wonderful thing every day." I hope she knew how those words, spoken without great to do at the end of a long life, would continue to resound with me. It is indeed the little wondrous moments that punctuate the day and give Life meaning.

I am pleased to let you know that five paintings from the series "My Mother's Last Purse," were selected for an online exhibit sponsored by the Still Point Art Gallery. Thirty artists were selected for this national juried exhibition. Still Point Art Gallery, in Maine, also produces a printed quarterly journal, which is distributed across the country.

Saturday was Mason's birthday. I don't know how they know that, but Megan and Michael, who feed and care for Mason frequently post pictures of him online, keeping his admirers in the loop. He could be a model for Channel. But he isn't. He is just living his life being beautiful and adored by lots of people but mostly by Megan and Michael. This is for them.
