Feels like rain. Beethoven's "Tempest" (Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, Op 31 No.2) is mirroring with music the atmosphere outside my window. Darkening sky, soft light, and a hint of moisture, enveloped by deeply moving music and the beauty of it all inside.
Seeing Catherine Maize's exquisite small paintings at Thiebaud Gallery today was just what I needed. They are simple and simply beautiful. Unselfconscious in a way that is rare. I came home refreshed, inspired, and lightened. Enlightened maybe. Determined to do more with less.
I have been listening non stop to "Morimur J.S. Bach." Nothing inspires deep down like Bach. The combination of violin and voice is sublime. And just in time for Spring cleaning of the soul is a new collection of Lydia Davis' short stories. The title, "Can't and Won't" promises to inspire doing our own thing and breaking the rules. We can all use a push in that direction. I can hardly wait to get my hands on a copy.
