So you're thinking, where is "The Joy of Cooking" in this painting? It's the first book. The one without a cover. It was willed to me by my mother's friend, Elizabeth who had received it as a wedding present. It has her notes on recipes and no cookbook can take its place. I did buy a new "Joy" with an intact cover and crisp white pages, but it didn't take. The recipes are spruced up and names have changed and not only that, Elizabeth never touched its pages.

I seem to have changed the subject. Just as I was getting to know the habits of my local egret. She's still at the heliport marsh. And I still catch a glimpse as I cross the Richardson Bridge, trying not to crash the car in the process. But there's something about the books that is luring me away. All the egrets and cows are framed and for sale. $125 and up. Call and come by to see them all and find the one that's right for you or someone you love.
