Still grappling with the question of painting large or small. Yesterday my wise and generous artist friend, Henry Isaacs encouraged me to stay small with this series. "...you have a
subject now that is intimate, personal, and it begs a viewer to
approach the painting as a window, a glimpse into an overheard
conversation, or a moment in someone's life that was not neccessarily
supposed to be recorded. Stay small!" OK. Don't mind if I do. What a relief. More to come.

George Hellyer filled Mondavi Winery Gallery with years worth of still lives on Sunday. (They call them Still "Lifes" but I like calling them "lives" because they are so alive, living.) The show is up until March 12 at Mondavi in Oakville if you want to get inspired by what life at 87 can look like. No more whining from me about art and age.

Yesterday I went to SF Moma to see the Martin Puryear exhibit before it closes. It was Free Tuesday. The museum was packed with all kinds of people. Turns out photography is allowed in the permanent collection. I went crazy. So many favorite paintings. So many people milling around. Like cows in a field. Boats on the water. Dogs in the fog. Here is the first MOMA Museum Goer. I wanted to paint this image on a large canvas. Rothko cries out for large. But I didn't have the right size. So I went with 12"X12" which seemed rediculous but after seeing all the masters, I was desparate to start painting. No matter how I stockpile, I never have the size I want. Now I'm off to procure more canvas.
