Moved by Mondrian White, Black, and Red

Moved by Mondrian 'White, Black, and Red'
Oil on Wood

I wonder if Mondrian knew how his paintings would warm this passerby carrying a red purse on a cold Winter day. Long gone and still here, an oasis of calm in a complicated world.

When In Doubt, Dance

When in Doubt, Dance
Oil on Wood
10"X10"
She could have walked out of a Matisse cut-out on view all day and night that last weekend at MoMA. It was a stupendous show of creativity and color, and the artist's sheer will to live right up to his last breath. Seeing her in her cut-out coat waltzing by his dancers made my heart sing, despite the cold, and bad news spilling in from every corner of the world. If only more Life would imitate Art.

Spring Springs Eternal

Spring Springs Eternal
Oil on Wood
14"X14"

On a frigid day in New York City, Alex Katz's, "Tulips" filling the MoMA lobby with exuberance  made Spring seem like a distinct possibility. Never underestimate the power of Life to imitate Art. One can always hope.
